The Italian Dolomites https://www.lauraknight.com/blog/2018/9/the-italian-dolomites The scale and grandeur of the Dolomite Alps appear to make everything else insignificant. The Dolomites comprise 90,000 acres of mountainous terrain the geology of which dates back some 230 million years. The Dolomites stretch east and west between Italy and Austria and are a natural haven of rocks, woods and meadows.

Tuscany (Toscana)-Cortona https://www.lauraknight.com/blog/2018/8/tuscany-toscana--cortona Cortona is a medieval town in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany. It is a cultural and artistic center whose standing as a tourist destination has intensified since the publication of Frances Mayes's book 'Under the Tuscan Sun' which is set there. Cortona's current good fortune in attracting large numbers of tourists can be attributed in large part to Frances Mayes. The town is encircled by defensive walls dating to the Etruscan period and medieval houses pack the slopes.

Tuscany (Toscana)-Florence, San Gimignano, Volterra https://www.lauraknight.com/blog/2018/7/tuscany-toscana--part-1-florence-san-gimignano-volterra Giuseppe Verdi's love of Italy is well elucidated in his own words; You may have the universe if I may have Italy." There are many who would ascribe these words to Tuscany, a most beloved region of rolling hills and ancient medieval cities. This is Part 1 of our Tuscan travel adventures to be followed by Part 2 covering other cities within this region of Italy.

Burano https://www.lauraknight.com/blog/2018/7/burano Described by the Huffington Post as "the cheeriest little island", where colors sizzle and pop. Like neighboring Venice, Burano is densely built and interwoven with canals lined with colorful boats and fisherman's homes. A visit to the island is well worth the 40 minute boat ride from Piazza San Marco.

Venice (Venezia) https://www.lauraknight.com/blog/2018/7/venice-venezia Venice, a unique city of many faces. Its ancient orgins still impress. It has been described as an 'open air museum'. This blog encapsulates my experiences with this amazing archipelago.
