"The thing that's important to know is that you never know. You're always sort of feeling your way" Diane Arbus (1923-1971). I believe this to be true in my approach to photographing the world around me.
After a long business career in public accounting, finance, information technology and consulting I discovered a deeply held passion for photography after taking a class on exposure by Bryan Peterson. I am largely self taught and have been actively trying to make good images since 2007 however with each passing year I begin to realize how much I have to learn and that it is all about practice, practice and more practice. For me this wonderful journey is a process of continual learning to which there is no end. It is a lot like golf, very hard to perfect and once in a while you get lucky.
With a great deal of encouragement from my husband I have completed course work with renowned photographers; Brian Peterson, Kathleen Clemons, Deborah Sandidge and Darwin Wiggett. I am inspired by works of art created by photography professionals, such as the simple and orderly black and white compositions of Michael Kenna; the incredible images of Dorothea Lange; the natural light photography of Vincent Versace and William Neill and the fine art images created by Tony Sweet. What is inspiring about these masters of the craft is that their images generate a curiosity.
During the course of the last several years I have been fortunate to have received the following awards:
Blue Ribbon Award-“Alone Together”-Florida Camera Club Council, June 2008
Yellow Ribbon Honor Award-“Paddling Paradox”-Florida Camera Club Council, September 2008
Yellow Ribbon Honor Award-“From Bud to Flower”-Florida Camera Club Council, April 2010
2nd Place Picture of the Year (B Class Category) -“From Bud to Flower”-Florida Camera Club Council 2010
I was born and educated in Australia and lived and worked for several years in Europe. I have been in the United States since 1980 and with my husband live in Windermere, Florida; Hendersonville, North Carolina and Bowral, N.S.W Australia.
